As the two separate groups of changelings flew off from Canterlot, green flames quickly encircled each one as they took on the forms of pegasi. Better to arouse less suspicion as long as they could. With their disguises no in place, the seven sped off beyond the boundaries of Equestria, each intent on getting to their respective Hives as fast as possible. They flew over largely populated areas and the few scattered towns on the outskirts, only resuming their true form as they drew closer to their landing-place, far off the Equestrian border.

This is why you don't mess with Twilight when she has sinister plans to fulfill...

Yeah, this is more-or-less what Twilight is like by chapter 7 of Pages of Harmony after inflicting a "death energy spell" she partially creates to then murder Tponies who get in the way, with her normal magenta magical aura tainted an ethereal black, and able to produce tendrils to ensnare ponies she can then get rid of.

.... And I don't know about you guys, but I just realized the DNA strands look kind of like bones with some blood residue on them or something... unintentional, but fitting!

Honestly... I wish I could too. Twilight in this is partially from that one scene where she's in the crystal catacombs of Canterlot, and the bone-like DNA strands are from a picture I found, which I then used a kaleidoscope effect to do, and I did the dark magic thing by drawing it with pixlr.com and using the wave ripple effect.

Kinda harsher in hindsight one might say after all in the story she uses dark magic to reach her mad scientist laboratory.

And come the crystal empire two parter she uses dark magic to find a hidden staircase.
